What does democratization in fashion really mean?
Wow! This was such an informative and interesting read. I loved all the dirty details about how they would obtain and make copies of the garments.
Hi Kari! Thank you so much! XX
Schiaparelli used to sell her knitting patterns to members of the public so they could make their own versions of her famous trompe de l’oeil knits!
Fascinating! I know that Coco Chanel thought that copies were good for business and she manufactured her own fabrics so she could profit off of all the replicas.
Great article! I’m still kicking myself for not buying a Dior dupe dress from a now-gone local thrift store. 💕
Ugh! Devastating! I've been wondering how many designer replicas I saw while working at a vintage store but I'll never know.
I made myself put it back- I wouldn’t have worn it (except in a costume-y way) and couldn’t justify $80-90 for it. But I still think about it!
I can imagine how tempting it would be to work in a vintage store, Sophia! You would spend your entire paycheque there!💕
